Official Funeral for Sir Keithlyn Smith

“My Government considers it just, that his memory be honored with an Official Funeral.  May he be ever remembered by a grateful nation.” Word of Condolence expressed by Prime Minister Gaston Browne in a letter to General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union on the passing of Sir Keithlyn Smith.

Prime Minister Brown also highlighted that “Sir Keithlyn Smith left evidence of his footsteps in the sands of modern Antigua and Barbuda Labour History. He will be remembered for his special role in helping to shape the new Antigua and Barbuda”.

Browne went on to state “the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union has played a significant role in the advancement of workers’ rights in our country, thanks to the enormous contribution by leaders such as Sir Keithlyn. He was an indomitable figure who fought for the right of workers and advanced the cause of justice during his lifetime as a Trade Unionist.

Prime Minister Browne also praised  Sir Keithlyn for his important role in capturing history in his effort to elevate people from the ashes of colonial rule which helped to shape the nation’s outlook of the past. 

Sir Keithlyn passed peacefully at his home on Friday 31st July 2020.
